Media Heritage is pleased to
announce that we have the opportunity to acquire, for our Greater Cincinnati Radio and Television Museum, and authentic Wurlitzer
six rank theater pipe organ. Back in the 1920's and 1930's, most
radio stations had a pipe organ on "stand-by" for a variety of programs and to "fill-in" for shows that
ended early or went off the air suddenly. In Cincinnati, the pipe
organ was the preferred instrument of such lasting entertainers as Fats Waller, Ruth Lyons, Lee Erwin, Hap Lee and Gene Perrazo,
among others. Many radio programs utilized the organ for such things as theme songs, sound effects and accompaniment. Media Heritage has been offered a Wurlitzer Pipe organ (Opus 1787) that was originally
installed in a small theater in Troy, Ohio. However, and most important, one of the ranks of pipes was from the organ
at WLW's famous Arlington Street studios in Cincinnati! The owner would love to see this instrument stay in Cincinnati
but acknowledges he has potential buyers in other parts of the United States. He has given us until mid- February
to raise the money to purchase the instrument. Additional money would eventually need to be raised to pay for its restoration
and installation. But first thing's first! Let's keep
this part of musical history in Cincinnati! Contact Mike

date, about a third of our goal ($15,000) has been secured--perhaps you can help! All major donors will be recognized
permanently on a plaque with the instrument.
